Maria Teresa Álvarez Román is the Head of the Haemostasis Unit at the University Hospital La Paz, Madrid, Spain. She studied Medicine at the University of Salamanca, Spain and, after completing her Haematology residency at Hospital La Paz, she obtained her PhD at the Autonomous University of Madrid with a research project on platelets.
Maria Teresa has an Executive Master in management of Health Organizations from the ESADE Business School. She is a researcher of the “Coagulopathy and haemostasis diseases group” of the La Paz Research Institute (IdiPaz), focused on Research, Development and Innovation. She is also a member of the committee of experts for the development of the “Therapeutic Guide for Haemophilia Patients” for the Spanish Ministry of Health.
Dr Álvarez Román is the Director of the Master’s Degree on “congenital and acquired coagulopathies” at the University of Alcala, Madrid and the Director of the “Conference on haemostasis: from physiology to pathology” annual training course at the International University of Andalucía, Spain.
Maria Teresa completed a Postgraduate Training Course on thrombotic pathology and is involved in a great number of clinical trials, having received several national and international awards in the scope of haemophilia and other congenital coagulation disorders.
She has published more than 60 manuscripts and more than 30 chapters related to the specialty. Finally, she is a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the PedNet group, the President of the Scientific Committee of the Victoria Eugenia Foundation and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
